Rhodes

Rhodes – Medieval Grandeur, Lindos Light & Dodecanese Beaches

Overview

Rhodes is a generous all‑rounder: a living medieval city, sandy coves on the east coast, and wind‑buffed bays on the west. The UNESCO‑listed Old Town is not a stage set but a neighbourhood, its cobbles worn by centuries and its walls embracing cafés, mosques, inns and museums. Lindos, draped beneath its acropolis, distils Greek island romance without severing ties to the sea; its coves are as swimmable as its lanes are photogenic. The island is large—distances deserve respect and a car helps—but its variety makes a week pass pleasantly without repetition.

Food & Nightlife

Expect meze courtyards tucked behind stone arches in the Old Town, seafood down the east‑coast villages, and a lively bar scene in Rhodes Town and Faliraki. Local tastes include pitaroudia (chickpea fritters) and thyme honey desserts. Nights tend towards relaxed rather than raucous—unless you choose otherwise.

Getting There

International flights reach RHO for much of the year. Buses stitch together the main east‑coast resorts, but a rental car lets you combine Lindos’s lanes with south‑coast beaches and upland forests. Allow an hour from the airport to Lindos in normal traffic. Island‑hopping to Symi and other Dodecanese is straightforward from Mandraki Harbour.
